Our two south-facing twin rooms are comfortable, light and spacious, with spectacular views. We have a third room facing the ravine to the north.
As a family-run business in a rural community, we aim to run our bed and breakfast accommodation in an environmentally friendly way, thereby promoting sustainable tourism. We are currently working towards some of the initiatives promoted by the Green Tourism Business Scheme. This includes everyday energy reduction and the encouragement of local wildlife.
We purchase local produce, where possible, to support the region’s farmers, as this in turn maintains the agricultural character of the area and improves our environment. Local products generally include Cumberland sausages, bacon, free-range farm eggs, honey and fruit preserves.
We have a beautiful pet owl called Hoot in an aviary in our garden who has proved very popular attraction with guests.

Our en-suite twin room is £38 per person, based on two people sharing.
Our second twin room, with its own private shower room, is £36 a night per person.
Our third ensuite twin room, is £36 a night per person.
Single occupancy, when available, is £40.

From the East - On the A69 once past Haltwhistle, take the B6318 signposted Gilsland and Greenhead. At the crossroads continue straight over. As you enter the village of Gilsland go under the railway bridge and turn right at the T Junction at the Bridge Inn pub. Take the next left after the bridge signposted Birdoswald. Tantallon House is 200m on the right hand side.
From the West - From the A69 take the minor road signposted Denton, Gilsland and Birdoswald. Cross the railway line and continue into the village. Bear left at the T Junction by the Bridge Inn pub. Cross over the bridge and take the next left signed for Birdoswald. Tantallon House is 200m on the right hand side.
